Affirming and authentic connection is at the foundation of our work together.

Without a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship, transformative healing and growth simply can’t take place at the level that you deserve. There’s a biological reason for this, too! When we don’t feel safe, heard, or understood on a core level, we aren’t able to move past our body’s protective ‘walls’ that keep our vulnerable parts safe- the same parts of us that have experienced hurt, betrayal, or abuse in past relationships. We aim to always meet you where you’re at, take the time to hear this piece of your story, and then explore together what it looks like to create a safe and trusting connection in our relationship.

We strive to show up as genuine, warm, and totally human.

Relationships (yes-even therapeutic relationships!) are a two-way street and the success of therapy relies so much on our ability to connect as humans. We recognize that this connection won’t flourish if we’re not able to bring down our own protective ‘walls’ and venture into vulnerability alongside you. We’re committed to showing up for you in this way and owning the times when we’re not quite as connected to you or ourselves as we’d like to be.

We’ll process through our shitty first drafts together and explore the pieces of therapy that are both totally transformative and just not working for you. As part of this, we might dive into our experiences in relationship with each other, too. This piece alone has the potential to be an incredibly healing aspect of therapy that’s often so overlooked. We believe that we have so much to learn from each other as humans- all we need is the space and safety to explore!

Your story, identities, and experiences are welcomed and honored here.

You deserve to feel seen and valued for all that you are. The therapists at our practice are dedicated to operating from an anti-oppressive, anti-racist stance and are affirming of all identities, backgrounds, and orientations. We are racial and LGBTQ justice allied therapist, HAES (Health at Every Size) informed, and sex positive. Recognizing that dynamics of power and oppression are present throughout the world and in our session room, we approach our connection with curiosity, a whole lot of humility, and a willingness to acknowledge our blindspots and repair our mistakes.

Our process will honor the depth and complexity of your experiences.

Pain, disconnection, and trauma are both universal and entirely unique experiences. We honor this and truly take the time to see you and hear your story. It sounds simple, but in a world as disconnected and individualistic as ours, this alone can be a truly transformative experience. All of this is to say that we won’t just prescribe quick-fix solutions or goal-oriented homework assignments to your years of painful experiences. We’ve actually found that this can leave us in a space of feeling even more disconnected and misunderstood. We trust that if the path towards healing were truly as simple as a few shifts in thinking and behavior we’d all have it figured out for ourselves already. Together, we’ll go deeper than this and hold space for your unique story and healing path.

Our work together is collaborative and takes place on your unique timeline.

You’re the expert on your own experience, not your therapist. Our role as your therapist is to show up as a member of your team, not the knower of all things. We’ll check-in with you often to make sure our work together feels supportive, helpful, and aligned with your goals. As a client, you always have the right to tell a therapist what is and isn’t working for you. We also know that this can feel hard and aim to create safety for us to be able to have these conversations openly. We believe in trusting your wisdom and innate resilience over our training and education any day. Only you know what you need-we’re simply here to support you in exploring and cultivating whatever that may be.

Healing and growth take place gradually over time and with lots of patience and compassion added into the mix. As wonderful as it would be for healing took place overnight, the process is simply never linear and it can’t be dictated on a set timeline. You deserve someone to hold this space with you, grow alongside you, celebrate you through the triumphs, and support you through the bumps along the way. Our therapists would be honored to show up as this person for you.

We’re wholeheartedly invested in your healing.

You deserve a therapist who’s right there in the thick of it with you, who truly sees you, and who works hard right alongside you. Our promise to you is to never show up as a ‘blank slate’- think empty stares and passive mhmms. As your therapist, we’re invested in your healing, we feel the emotional weight of your experiences right alongside you, and we will use our connection and mutual dedication to our work to co-create meaningful opportunities for transformation.

 Our Clinical Orientation

The therapists at CZ therapy work very collaboratively and through a similar lens. We pull from various experiential, relational, attachment and trauma focused therapeutic modalities in our work with clients, including: Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Somatic Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotion Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Feminist Therapy, and Narrative Therapy.

Our work is trauma-informed and takes place through an experiential, relational, and anti-oppressive lens. We believe in total transparency and collaboration with clients- our goal is for you to never feel left in the dark and to hold complete autonomy over your own therapeutic process. We’ll discuss and collaboratively agree on any direct interventions (such as EMDR trauma therapy) before they’re ever implemented and we’re always happy to have open conversations around any pieces of our process.
